Breitbart News is reporting that, as of January, more than 1,000 of the 2,600 people who signed up to lease a home under the Tarrant County Tarrants Housing Authority are no longer able to lease.
Tarrant is one of the largest housing authorities in Texas and one of just a handful in the country to have an independent Housing Authority.
It was set up in 2005 by then-Gov.
George W. Bush, who was then in the White House and wanted to make sure there was enough affordable housing in the state.
Since then, Tarrance has built housing for more than 12,000 residents.
But according to Breitbart News, it’s unclear how many Tarrantes homes remain vacant.
A Tarranta official told Breitbart News that Tarrancas numbers are currently “satisfied” with housing for residents.
Terrancas housing authority is one part of a broader nationwide effort to provide housing to low-income residents, many of whom have struggled to find affordable housing, according to the American Enterprise Institute.
In a statement to Breitbart, the housing authority said that it has a process in place to determine whether any property is eligible for a Tarrancy lease.
It added that it is “committed to ensuring that residents who qualify for Tarrancies Housing are afforded the opportunity to secure the best home for their needs.”
